IBTC 2024:
Valuing figures for hiking and cycling tourism
Working in the tourism segment of biking and hiking, we try to understand what is happening around us, what we can expect in the near future and how we can build our business in and around it. What are the prospects and opportunities we can use, and which traps and obstacles do we need to avoid or overcome?
To come to a better understanding we collect data, or use the data others have collected. The data is assembled and put together, and can also be used to apply statistical calculations and operations. The bare numbers and figures, together with the results of these statistics, show us a picture which we consider an image of the reality. The complexity of the reality painted in straightforward numbers.
Of course we know better, or at least we should know better, but do we always take this knowledge into consideration? Do we build our tourism business model based only on numbers and statistics? And if we don’t want that, what other tools are available that can help us to build an image of the reality; which we need to build our business?
In the keynote 'Valuing figures for hiking and cycling tourism' by Theo Jorna, ceo of Hicle, we will explore another way of looking at tourism and the numbers that are used to build a business case in the biking and hiking segment. At the end of the presentation there will be time for discussion to share our experience and knowledge.
