Poland theme country Fiets en Wandelbeurs Utrecht 2024

Poland will be in the spotlight as theme country at the upcoming Fiets en Wandelbeurs (23, 24 and 25 February 2024) in Jaarbeurs Utrecht. The many cycling and walking options in Poland are presented in the theme country pavilion, in lectures and in presentations.

Poland is surprisingly green and relatively close by. The country has 23 national parks and forests cover no less than 29.6% of the country. Wherever you are in Poland, nature is never far away! It is something that cyclists and walkers fully benefit from. A visit to beautiful cities such as Krakow, Gdansk or Warsaw completes a trip to Poland. There you can experience millennial Polish history and culture. And wherever you are in the country, you will be warmly welcomed everywhere.

Poland on the cycling map

In recent years, Poland has put itself on the cycling map with new routes. The Green Velo is 2,000 km long and takes you along the most beautiful places in five provinces in eastern Poland. Work is also underway on the Velo Malopolska, a cycling network of 1,000 km of marked trails in the Lesser Poland region. Several hundred kilometers have already been completed and part of it – the Velo Dunajec – is already considered one of the most beautiful cycle routes in Poland. On the coast, the EuroVelo 13, or Iron Curtain Trail, is under development, which runs along the former Iron Curtain.

Endless hiking pleasure

You will find beautiful hiking trails everywhere in the country. In the forests, on the coast and certainly in the mountains. Imposing peaks rise in the Tatra and Giant Mountains and challenge you to climb them. In the mountain ranges of the Sudetes, Carpathians and Świętokrzyskie, 15,000 km of marked routes have been set out for endless hiking fun. A unique (hiking) highlight is the Białowieża primeval forest, the last remnant of the original forest that once covered the European continent. Here you have the chance to come face to face with the European bison, on of the largest mammals in Europe, in the wild.

Beaches, cliffs and walking dunes

The Polish coast also has a lot to offer. The coastline is approximately 770 km long and has beautiful white sandy beaches and spectacular cliffs such as in the Woliński National Park. The Słowiński National Park is also well worth a visit. It was established to preserve the beauty of the coastline and especially to protect the unique and largest region of 'moving dunes' in Europe. Some dunes are still moving eastward, even at speeds of up to 10 meters per year.
